NEWS AROUND THE FIRE HOUSE - 2015

February 17, 2015- Tuesday February 17th Minerva Fire/Rescue responded to a possible structure fire on Saw Mill Way off St Rt 28N. Engine 492 arrived on scene and confirmed a structure fire, requesting a second and third alarm to the scene. Because the structure was so far off the main road Minerva Fire Command requested all available man power and 4 wheel drive fire apparatus to the scene. Pottersville and Chestertown Fire Dept's were able to provide brush trucks to aid in the pumping of water in such a remote area. Additional Mutual Aid from Newcomb, North Creek, Schroon Lake and Johnsburg were on scene to help. Minerva ambulance personnel treated a patient on scene for possible smoke inhalation and requested Newcomb ambulance transport the patient, which they did. Minerva ambulance remained on scene to provide rehab to firefighters and also treated an animal that was rescue by Pottersville Firefighters. North River Fire was called to stand by in The Town of Minerva in case of additional 911 calls.

February 11, 2015- During the early morning hours of Wednesday February 11th Minerva Fire/Rescue was called to the scene of a structure fire in the Horicon Fire District. The Mutual Aid request came from North Warren EMS Command who reported six people were injured from the fire. Minerva ambulance responded to help along with Johnsburg, Warrensburg and Schroon Lake EMS. The Minerva ambulance was the first Mutual Aid ambulance to arrive on the scene. Minerva transported a critically injured patient who was being treated by a North Warren ambulance crew. Schroon Lake provided an ambulance to remain on scene and rehab firefighters, while Minerva, North Warren, Johnsburg and Warrensburg transported patients to Glens Falls Hospital.

January 29, 2015- Thursday January 29th Minerva Fire/Rescue responded to a reported chimney fire on Morse Memorial Hwy. Upon arriving on scene Engine 494 confirmed a working structure fire. A second alarm was activated bringing firefighters/ apparatus from Pottersville, North Creek and Johnsburg to the scene. Johnsburg EMS was requested to stand by in the Town of Minerva due to the Minerva ambulance being used to rehab firefighters. Additional Mutual Aid from Schroon Lake later arrived to help. The fire was eventually knocked down and no one was injured.

January 28, 2015- Wednesday January 28th Minerva Fire/Rescue responded to a two car motor vehicle accident with reported entrapment. Within six minutes of the call first responders arrived with Engine 494 and confirmed entrapment of two subjects. MVFDRS Ambulance arrived with ALS within seven minutes of receiving the call and began rendering care. Due to the number of patients a North Warren ambulance was called to the scene for transportation assistance. The JAWS of Life was used to remove the roof and extricate the subjects who suffered minor injuries. Two subjects refused medical care and two were transported to Glens Falls Hospital by Minerva and North Warren ambulances. A total of 11 MVFDRS volunteers responded to the call.
